Commercial drivers and motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada riders, made last-minute brisk incomes on Saturday morning amidst restriction on movement.
The police had vowed that there would be a strict restriction on movement of vehicles from 6am to 6pm during today’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.
But our correspondent who visited Iwo Road, a major highway in Ibadan, Oyo State, observed that cab drivers and Okada riders were on the road as of 7pm, picking passengers.
Soldiers, however, mounted a roadblock along the road to check the vehicles.
Most of the passengers told our correspondent that they were going to where they registered to vote.
It was also observed that there was a hike in fare as the Okada riders charge N100 for a place which normally attracts N50 fare.
