Aviation training aircraft forced to land over engine failure

A Tampico training aircraft belonging to the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, was forced to land on Friday, the college said.

In a statement on Sunday, the NCAT said the pilot of the TB-9 aircraft was forced to make a successful forced landing about seven nautical miles north-west of Kaduna Airport.

The college said the pilot and engineer were unhurt and had since returned to base while the Accident Investigation Bureau had been notified in line with the standard practice.

In a statement signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr Tunji Oketunbi, the AIB said it had commenced an investigation into the incident, which was caused by an engine failure.

“On March 1, 2019, the AIB was notified of an accident of a Tampico (TB-9) aircraft with nationality and registration marks 5N-CBP at Rumi forest, Sabon Birnin, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, Kaduna State,” the AIB said.

“The aircraft was on a test flight being conducted by a pilot and an engineer. The aircraft force-landed at 14:40 as a result of an engine failure. There was no fatality after the forced landing,” it added.
