A group, the Protect Nigeria Group, on Monday claimed that some unnamed foreign Non-Governmental Organisations are working in conjunction with some embassies and political parties to interfere in the nation’s ongoing electoral process.
It said the development was already causing tension in the country ahead of the formal declaration of the result of the presidential election, hence the need to quickly address the situation.
The group’s chairman, Abdulwahab Ekekhide, stated this at a press conference in Abuja.
Ekekhide said the group expected diplomatic missions and foreign election observers to observe “diplomatic ethics” and stop interfering in the nation’s electoral process.
He said, “We note with a great sense of patriotism the high tension generated by the presidential elections as well as the careless attitude of many who wish to throw the country into crisis for their selfish interest.
“This tension emanated from intentional interference in Nigeria’s electoral process by foreign Non-Governmental Organisations in conjunction with some embassies and political parties.
“We therefore advise those involved to sheathe their sword of crisis during this electoral process.
“We expect the diplomatic missions and their agents among the election observers to observe diplomatic ethics and decorum.
“Nigeria is greater than the selfish interest of any particular person or group of persons. Nigeria is not ready for another civil war.”
Ekekhide argued that those allegedly involved in the plan can cause crisis in Nigeria and escape from the country as is the norm any time they cause crisis in other countries.
He therefore urged the Federal Government to consider wielding the big stick, against them.
“We call on the Federal Government to consider measures which include deportation, prosecution and even imprisonment of such offenders.
“We cannot sit back and allow our country to be destroyed,” he said.
