African leaders congratulate Buhari on victory

Some African leaders on Wednesday sent their congratulatory messages to President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at Saturday’s presidential poll.

The leaders of Morocco, Ghana, Niger, Senegal and Guinea, congratulated Buhari, according to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu.

The statement said King Mohammed VI of the Kingdom of Morocco noted that Buhari’s victory meant that Nigerians had confidence in him.

‘‘Your re-election is a testimony to the level of confidence that you enjoy among the people of Nigeria, attributable to your wisdom, experience in politics, sense of engagement and devotion to the service and the protection of the interests of the country, especially as they relate to the well-being and security of your people,” King Mohammed VI was quoted as saying.

President Alpha Conde of Guinea said Buhari’s re-election had raised fresh hopes for the West African sub-region.

“Conde expressed confidence that the cordial relations between Nigeria and Guinea will continue to get better”, the statement added.

Others who reportedly sent their messages were President Macky Sall of Senegal, President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger and President Nana Koffi-Addo of Ghana.
