Ajimobi mourns as Iyalode of Ibadanland dies at 93

The
Iyalode of Ibadanland, Alhaja Aminat Abiodun, is dead.

Abiodun, who was the  only woman in Olubadan-In-Council and one of the kingmakers in the city of Ibadan died on Saturday at the age of 93.

Iyalode was the representative of women in the Olubadan-in-council which has 13 members with the Olubadan as the head.

Abiodun was announced  the  Iyalode in August 2007 following the death of her predecessor, Chief Mrs Wuraola Akintola and was installed as the 13th Iyalode of Ibadanland on 19th October, 2007.

Dignitaries have started commiserating with the family following the demise of the nonagenarian and the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, in the condolence message to the family described Abiodun as an exemplary mother.

Ajimobi said,  “Let me on behalf of the people and government of Oyo state extend condolence to the nucleus family of Mama. By tradition and relationship, mama was my mother.

I knew mama since I was like nine years old and she was an exemplary mother, very elegant and very beautiful, she has presence both in character and in carriage. She epitomised nobility, she epitomised elegance and consequently became the queen of Ibadanland.

“And she rose through the ranks and paid her dues. She was successful in all ramifications. So for me I think it’s the passage of a titan of Colosus who left her mark in the sand of time.

I think for me it’s a great loss but let’s take solace in the fact that she lived well, left good children. And Ibadan will forever remember her. She was the Iyalode of Ibadanland, and for many years, she was and she is irreplaceable. We are going to miss her.”
