193 stranded Nigerians return from Libya

The National Emergency Management Agency, on Thursday received another batch of 193 stranded Nigerians from Libya.

The returnees, consisting 97 males and 96 females including infants and children arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 8.30pm.

The Acting Zonal Coordinator, South West, NEMA, Mr Segun Afolayan, who received them, urged people to desist from stigmatising young Nigerians trying to seek better opportunities outside the shores of the country, as this would help them to reintegrate into the society faster.

According to him, it is right for everyone to live free and comfortable lives but the process or the means of seeking the fulfilment of the rights should be well thought out.

He said, “Many of these innocent victims are not aware of the dangers of the means and the routes of the journey. They fall easily to the deceitful and deceptive promises of better life outside the country.

“Nigerians need to accept the challenges of the menace of irregular emigration as evil and inhuman and all hands must be on deck to save innocent youths from embarking on such perilous journeys henceforth.

“All lands are potential green pastures until you endeavour to till and water it to make it greener. Nigeria has potential pastures for everyone but we must strive to work hard on whatever course we have chosen, success will definitely come our ways with patient and perseverance.”

He urged the returnees to be positive and not be daunted by their unfortunate experiences.

The South-West Commander, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Mr Atokolo Daniel, also urged the returnees to be good ambassadors against human trafficking.
