Osibanjo restates Buhari’s commitment to develop South-East

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Friday reassured the people of the South-East of President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to the development of the zone.

Osibanjo spoke in Enugu while inaugurating the campaign office of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in the state, Senator Ayogu Eze.

The Vice President pointed out that the Buhari administration was already working on major infrastructural projects in the South-East.

He said, “President Buhari is committed to the development of the South-East, that is why the East-West Road, the Second Niger Bridge, and the Port Harcourt-Enugu Road are currently under construction.

“There were people who said that they were committed to the development of the South-East, they awarded contracts but nothing was done.”

Osinbanjo further assured that the APC-led Federal Government would not mismanage the country’s resources.

“No matter what anybody may say, the difference between our government and any other government is that we will not steal the resources of the nation.

“We will make sure that the money goes into the right projects and that those projects are started and completed.

“There is no project that will concern the South-East that will not be done and done properly.”

Urging the people of the South-East to embrace the APC, Osinbajo said the zone had a ‘right to develop’, like other parts of the country.

Speaking at the event, a former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, said that things had changed for the APC in Enugu State.

Nwobodo also called for ‘issue based’ campaigns ahead of the 2019 polls.

“From what you have seen today, Enugu has changed. Talk about what you will do for the people and what you did for them when you were in power. Let the campaigns be done without insulting anybody,” he said.

The state APC governorship candidate, Eze, said he identified with Buhari’s ‘Next Level’ campaign manifesto.

Addressing the Vice President, he said, ‘’Tell him (Buhari) that we sleep on the same bed, we have the same dream. The five-point agenda of the President are the same as what we are dreaming of in Enugu State. We are coming behind you sir.

“Let nobody tell you that he will give you 25 per cent or 30 per cent. Enugu State is for you 100 per cent.”
