Aworis allege marginalisation in Lagos

Some Awori leaders in Lagos State on Thursday alleged that the sub-ethnic group had been marginalised in the scheme of things in the state.

They, therefore, called on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to come to their aid by addressing the issue.

The leaders, who spoke under the Awori Welfare Association of Nigeria and the Awori Concerned Elders during a press conference, added that the Aworis had been supporting progressive governments in the state since the Second Republic.

The leaders, who hailed Tinubu and his successors — Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and Ambode — for what they described as their feats in the socio-economic development of the state, said the Aworis as the ‘largest indigenous stock’ deserved more attention.

The President, AWAN, Chief Solomon Ojo-Olowo, stated that the Aworis were not considered for senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly slots, noting that some people from the South-East were now in the state Assembly.

He further said deputy governorship position, usually conceded to the Awori, had become an elusive slot.

Ojo-Olowo said, “Our support should not be taken for granted. We are critical stakeholders in our state and nobody can shut us out from the toil of our forebears. We remain resolute that our voice must be heard in the affairs of our state.”
