LAUTECH slashes tuition, announces resumption

The Governing Council of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has slashed tuition fees for the indigenes and non-indigenes of Oyo and Osun states.

The reduction was announced after students of the school staged protest against initial hike in the tuition.

A statement by the Head, Public and Alumni Relations Unit of the school, Olalekan Fadeyi, on Saturday, said the council, headed by Prof Dapo Afolabi, has directed that the proposed tuition fees in the institution be brought down from N200,000 to N140, 000 for indigenes of the two states while non indigenes will pay N170,000 instead of N250,000 that was earlier announced.

The statement read, “The management has also announced that students (should) resume in the school on October 29, 2018.

“The council and management of the university appreciate concern of stakeholders over its present situation, but plead with well wishers to come to the realisation that cost of running qualitative and functional technical institutions like ours are becoming unbearably impossible if N65,000 and N72,000 are maintained as tuition.

“While Internally Generated Revenue from students’ fees would only remain supplementary, arrangements have been concluded to enlist parents and students into management of University fund in a manner that entrench transparency and accountability.”
