The Founder of Ruff ‘n’ Tumble, an indigenous clothing
company in Nigeria that specializes in children’s clothing Mrs. Adenike
Ogunlesi said that technology is the backbone of today’s retail operations and
success.
Ogunlesi said this at the just concluded 4th edition of the
annual Retail Leaders Conference in Lagos while delivering a paper on the topic
“Driving Retail Footfall for Profitable Sales and Growth.”
She stated that merchandising and technology, financial
planning and forecasting are part of the major strategies retailers can adopt
to bring customers to their stores.
According to her, other strategies are; category and data
management, merchandise allocation, store grading, modelling and space
planning, merchandise replenishment, pricing and markdowns.
She said that there is a need for retailers to know their
customers and effective way to communicate with them.
“Social media has been recognized as the largest and best
form of marketing for retailers to reach their customers. Top benefits of
social media marketing include ability to leverage various media formats
(Video, Images). It is cheaper, enables geo-targeting and identify target
audience, enables you to track your results and make informed decisions with
historical data,” she said.
According to her, innovative leadership enables employees
find purpose and fulfilment in what they do, adding that it actively drives
organisation culture to engage people.
Ogunlesi said that the future belongs to those who can,
through new thinking, see and create opportunity, adding that it’s time to
intentionally make the greatest connection of all the human side of business
without which nothing can nor will happen.
She said retailers must know how to leverage human capital
and current resources to increase productivity, sustain and create value,
manage cost, increase profit and drive competitive advantage.
