Lagos to rebuild TBS bus terminal

Plans are in place by the Lagos State Government to redevelop the bus terminus at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) on Lagos Island.

Unfolding the plan at a Stakeholder’s meeting held at the Terminus recently, the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Dayo Mobereola said the project is important to the development of Lagos as a tourism corridor.

While noting that the TBS is a rallying point for commuters and of significance in the history of the State and Nation, the Commissioner disclosed that a world-class bus terminus will confer more respect on the State and preserve the heritage of the site.

He assured that the proposed bus terminus will provide protection as well as help the state in prosecuting its agenda for a 24-hour economy and movement of goods and services, stressing that the design will also ensure that all the present users and transport groups will be accommodated as well as assist commuters to easily identify the buses/taxis they intend to board.

According to him, “the project which will be completed in nine months will see the government provide state-of-the-art bus shelters made of Tylon with high translucent quality and with a life span of more than 40 years”.

“The project, which will also involve civil and metal works, electrical and illuminations landscaping/beautification and service installation, will be dust repellent with very minimal maintenance cost,” he said.

Dignitaries present at the meeting include the Special Adviser on Transportation, Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Oluseyi Whenu; Engr. Jibade Caster Adebowale; the Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede and several others.
