Communication consultant bags NEITI job

Waziri Adio

President Muhammadu Buhari has constituted the new governing board of Nigeria Extractive Transparency Initiative (NEITI), with the publisher of Metropole Magazine, Waziri Adio, as the board’s Executive Secretary.

In a statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawan, Mr. Adio was appointed along with 23 others to serve as the National Stakeholders Working Group (NSCG), otherwise known as the Governing Board of NEITI.

Adio is expected to bring his wealth of experience In journalism and public serviceto bear on his new job. And given his reputation as a transparent no-nonsense professional, expectations are high that he is the right man for the job.

Between 1995 and 2003, Mr. Adio held various editorial positions in Thisday Newspaper and was at one time Special Adviser, Research and Strategy in the office of the Senate President from August 2003 to October 2004.

In 2004, he was appointed Communication Specialist by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), a position he held until 2007 when he left to serve as the Director of Communications of NEITI from May 2007 to June 2008.

Mr. Adio is a 1992 First Class graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Lagos. He obtained MSc. Journalism degree from Columbia University, New York, United States of America in 1999.

He also holds a Masters degree in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Massachusetts, USA in 2009. Mr. Adio’s appointment was with immediate effect.
